Gun Sales on Facebook
by emiliejenks
I came across an interesting video that aims to depict how rapidly and easily firearms are being sold on Facebook. Personally, I find this very disturbing because it enables individuals to buy, sell and trade guns without regulation. Although the actual sale or exchange does not take place on Facebook, the website links those wishing to participate in these practices. This allows for individuals of any age or criminal background to gain access to firearms without any questions being asked. In my mind, this aids in the perpetuation of gun sales to those who shouldn’t have them – which leads to events such as Sandy Hook. I am interested to see in what others think about this issue. Is Facebook enabling the sale of guns to its users or are they simply providing a forum for like minded individuals to share their interests? Should these groups be regulated?

The illegal gun trade has been around for a while, facebook is more of a social network for children, That article on Venture Beat about a child selling his father’s guns was kind of humorous. Someone was saying he stole them and then was selling them without telling his father.
Besides you can just order a gun off the internet and have it on your doorstep. Lee Harvey used the United States mails to order his gun, so really its so rampant anyone can get it. You can’t really control it, any individual has control over their own environment, so if there is a demand someone’s going to find a way to get them. That’s an interesting article.
NSA surveillance of 2 billion emails and texts per day and they can’t shut down these websites? The only advantage to purchasing a gun in this manner is to avoid the background check. Shame on Facebook.
Regulation does not stop “people who shouldn’t have guns” from getting guns.
Case and point: Adam Lanza (He could have passed any background check with flying colours and the guns he used were legally purchased).
